The Idaho Wheat Commission was established in 1959 to develop export markets for Idaho wheat growers. Along with market development, the new commission was charged with wheat research and wheat grower education.
The Idaho Wheat Commission is a not-for-profit, self-governing, wheat grower-funded state agency with a responsibility to increase wheat grower profits by investing check-off funds in the three areas listed above. The wheat commission is governed by a board of five wheat growers who are appointed by the Governor to serve a five-year term. The board hires an executive director who assembles a staff and works out of offices in Boise.
